Hope conjures different meanings for different people. To some, it can mean simply getting through a challenging day. For others, it can involve holding on to the belief that in spite of current circumstance, things will be better in the future.
Hope ties in closely with faith, though the two can be viewed as categorically separate. To me, faith implies a spiritual leaning. That, in spite of evidence to the contrary, or perhaps even in the absence of any tangible proof altogether, something greater than oneself is holding everything perfectly in place.
In any case, both hope and faith usually require some form of courage. Courage to believe in something in spite of circumstance or proof, and courage to believe that you can get through the day relatively unscathed.
Today I am hopeful, and I have faith that in spite of current circumstances, or proof to the contrary, things will be OK!
